Solana Beach

Solana Beach

Solana Beach is a charming, seaside community that is approximately a 30 minute drive from downtown San Diego. The city is home to a vibrant train station that serves both Amtrak and the Coaster, one of only three in San Diego County. The city has an average temperature of 62 degrees in the wintertime and 77 degrees in the summer. It offers 1.7 miles of coastline for swimming and surfing.

History

The area was first settled by the San Dieguitos, early Holocene inhabitants of the area. The George H. Jones family were the first settlers in the area now known as, Solana Beach, arriving in 1886. When Lake Hodges Dam was built in 1918, the area encompassing Solana Beach began to develop rapidly. The coastline from Solana Beach to Oceanside began to boom in the early 1920s. The community grew slowly, but steadily throughout the rest of the century, with particular booms occurring in the decade after World War II and a real estate boom in the last quarter on the 20th century.

Recreation

Solana Beach is a favorite destination for those looking to enjoy the beach, eclectic shops, great dining, golfing, nightlife and nearby hiking. Locals and tourists alike enjoy unique shopping at the Cedros Design District, musical acts and dining at the Belly Up Tavern and an ocean view at Fletcher Cove Park.
